These are sample applications that had found physical item protection
a necessary component of the overall data security policy.
Pre-Press & Publishing
Typically newspapers & magazines who are almost totally dependant
on receiving & storing information electronically as multimedia
files. DDV-3000™ technology allows for quick secure off-loading
of archived data, for possible access at a later time.
Pharmaceuticals
/ R&D
In these environments extraordinary numbers of data are generated
quickly. Experimental data, long-term studies, large data sets,
multimedia content, ...etc., all critical and even more competitively
vital. If this data were to ever leave the project domain,
it might prove to be extremely costly to recover. DDV-3000™
augments the already existing on-line protection schemes and extends
it to the off-line data. As backups are made, or data otherwise
burned in on optical media (CD/DVD), DDV-3000™ provides
a safe depository.
Email Archiving / Compliance
In today's environment, email archiving solutions represent one
of the most critical aspects of data management of virtually any
size organization. Various compliance requirements virtually dictate
email preservation and storage on WORM (write once read many)
optical media.
To comply, electronic messages are automatically or interactively
archived from the email system to external DVD storage media thereby
assuring compliance with legal requirements. Up to 90% of space
is regained on the average from servers and users mailboxes. Now
that data is stored, what measure do you have to control it?
Corporate Security Threats
As defined in numerous studies and white papers throughout the
industry, probably the largest threat to the corporate data well
being is the internal threat by rogue employees, subcontractors
or even vendors.
The threat to storage security has increased. The increasing
number of SAN ports, integration with IP networks, and shifting
of data-in-flight from one
storage device to another within the storage fabric have contributed
to this. New mixed IP (iSCSI and FC-IP) and Fibre Channel storage
environments, as well as the growing use of data replication and
mirroring technologies that transfer data across
the WAN to remote sites, also have the potential to expose data.
DDV-3000™ technology is designed to address these issues
as the data is increasingly moved from the on-line to the off-line.
Key sensitive information is virtually "naked" once
its burned on Blu-Ray or DDV, even if encryption is present. If
nothing else, the data can be destroyed.
DDV-3000™ provides a strong level of security and access
to most critical data when it is most vulnerable.

Email
Archiving / Compliance
In today's environment, email archiving solutions represent one
of the most critical aspects of data management of virtually any
size organization. Various compliance requirements virtually dictate
email preservation and storage on WORM (write once read many)
optical media.
To comply, electronic messages are automatically or interactively
archived from the email system to external DVD storage media thereby
assuring compliance with legal requirements. Up to 90% of space
is regained on the average from servers and users mailboxes. Now
that data is stored, what measure are there to protect it from
prying eyes? From corporate standpoint, email data represents
huge liability risk.
DDV-3000™ technology is geared specifically to address this
need. By providing stringent access restrictions and rules (see
"overview") email and other
vitally critical data is safely secured.
HIPAA Compliance
Optical storage media represents that most preserved format of
data storage that exists today. Unlike magnetic-based storage,
which can be altered, erased, tempered ...etc., optical media
cannot be affected by any of these threats. Furthermore, optical
media has been tested to provide verifiable data storage of up
to 30 years, as compared to about 7 years with magnetic storage.
With all of these strengths, optical media has a major
flaw, it can be easily copied or stolen.
To adhere to direct HIPAA requirements of data protection, privacy
and restricted data control, DDV-3000™ technology can invaluable
in allowing specific rules and conditions to exist that protect
and limit access to data. Furthermore, alerts and detailed log
reports allow for identifiable control of all data activities.
Corporate governance is preserved as well, as key data items can
be isolated to key empowered personnel.
Document Management / LAW / Medical
Practice
The move towards a “paperless office” using Document
Management Systems has created a need to store scanned documents
and make them available as needed as part of corporate-wide workflow
solutions. To alleviate shear magnitude of acquired data, regular
off-loading to Blu-Ray or DDV-based devices is fairly common place.
Once in "physical state", physical items loose their
access rights and value. To that effect, DDV-3000™ technology
can re-instate these rules for physical items. Because of such
a small footprint, the entire DDV-3000™ appliance can reside
locally in branches or even at department level.
Data Center operations
A typical system backup, which is normally frequent and highly
scheduled, provides one of the most exposed data threats. Even
when the backed up media (optical) is stored in off site, there
is no guarantee or traceability that it is secured or that it
hasn't been accessed. Simply stored in boxes at some common warehouse
along side your potential competitors is the "par for the
course", as described by John Luftus or WPS in UK. The goal
of the DDV-3000™ appliance is to provide a total "lock"
of the data as well as traceable view of its life as it leaves
the on-line network.
